Global Scholars: Ignite Futures in Tanzania
Program Overview: The
Global Scholars project invites international volunteers to join efforts in enhancing the education system in Tanzania by assisting in schools ( Oldadai,Ilkiding’a, Mlangarini and Meru) and community education centers like Jithubutu Centre.
Volunteers will work directly with teachers and students, helping to bridge gaps in literacy, numeracy, and soft skills. This project focuses on both in-classroom assistance andextracurricular activities, aiming to improve academic performance and foster personal growth in children and young adults.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support: Volunteers will assist local teachers in primary and secondary schools. Activities include helping with lesson preparation, delivering lessons (with guidance from local teachers), supporting classroom management, and offering one- on-one or small group tutoring for students.
- Key Subjects: Literacy (English, Spanish, French or Chinese), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Arts.
- Classroom Engagement: Facilitating group work, hands-on activities, and interactive lessons that make learning enjoyable and effective.
- After-School Programs: Volunteers will lead after-school programs that focus on life skills, including leadership, critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity at Jithubutu Centre.
- Activities: Organizing debates, arts & crafts, storytelling, sports, and group discussions to build self-confidence and communication skills.
- Mentorship: Volunteers will mentor students on topics such as goal setting, career paths, and personal development, helping them envision brighter futures beyond school.

Community Impact
ViA in partnership with volunteers enabled to the following
- Improved Literacy and Skills: More than 500 children benefited from enhanced literacy programs, improving their reading and writing skills, with an increase in literacy rates by 40%.
- Increased Access to Education: Over 300 children, especially in remote areas, gained access to education through volunteer-led tutoring and teaching initiatives.
- Empowerment of Women and Girls: Approximately 150 girls were empowered through targeted educational programs, significantly improving gender parity in education in the region.
- Improved Community Engagement: Volunteers engaged with over 10 local schools, fostering a culture of learning and curiosity among more than 1,000 community members.
Skills Required:
- Teaching or Tutoring Experience: Experience in teaching, tutoring, or working with children is highly recommended.
- Patience & Flexibility: Volunteers should be patient, adaptable, and ready to work in a dynamic classroom environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially for teaching subjects like English.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Ability to work alongside local teachers and take initiative in classroom settings and extracurricular activities.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Respect and understanding of different cultural contexts, especially in rural settings.
